Wed/Thurs - Introduction of Napoleon and the French empire. Writing fan mail to Napoleon. Students will receive a study guide for test on French Revolution following week.

Friday - B Day students will have time in the media center to work on their French Revolution project. Projects can be handed in at the end of the period on Friday OR on Tuesday.

A day students will go to the media center on Monday (19th), so their project will be due then OR on the 21.

Test will be 12/20 - B day or 12/21 - A.

Quarterly exam explanation: This year's freshmen class is piloting a quarterly exam idea to see if it eases the worries of major exams like midterms and finals. Students will take half of their midterm exam on Nov 7 and 8 IN CLASS. This grade will be averaged together with their midterm exam grade (January). This exam will not count toward their marking period grade.

Please remind your student to bring in their textbook to hand in and their notebook for their last notebook check on the day of the final. Notebook checks done AFTER the scheduled final will suffer a loss of 20 points.

Students who cannot find their textbook will be charged a financial obligation of $73.

Meeting 1 (M/T) - Students will be looking at the effect of new weapons like poison gas on soldiers. We will also begin mapping out battles and the issue of a long stalemate. Complete graphic organizer for HW.

Meeting 2 (W/Th) - Students will again look at the soldiers' perspective. We will also explore America's reason for entering the war. HW due.

Meeting 3 (F) - The end to the "Great War" and the flawed Versailles Treaty.

Students in Biology will be taking the End-of-Course test on Monday and Tuesday. Because of the disruption to all morning freshmen classes, I am just going to list the activities of the week without any specific days, as some classes may be doing the same activities, just out of order.

-Students will take notes on South Africa (apartheid) and will watch the movie "Power of One." There will be a summary and critical thinking packet that goes along with the movie that will count as a test grade once it is handed in.
-Students will learn about the creation of Israel after WWII and the conflict in the Middle East that exists to this day.
-Students will read about the creation of Israel in the textbook for homework - notes on pp 583-587 and Q 3- 7 on p587. This will be due on Wednesday, May 19th for A day students and Monday, May 24th for B day students.

The end of the year is coming soon! That means finals are almost here....reminder that everything from the midterm to the end of the year will be on the final exam. Review sheets for the exam will go out the first week in June.
